A Shooting of a Liberal
I am sure by now that all of you have heard about the shooting in Arizona. But for those who haven’t Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head outside an Arizona grocery store on January 8th during a public rally. The motives of the gunman have not been stated publicly but to most it is obvious. Giffords was a liberal. Her campaign emphasized the liberal agenda including stem cell research and a higher minimum wage. Now what really makes people concerned, including the new Speaker of the House John Boehner, is that over the summer the campaign got really dirty. Sarah Palin with the Tea Party was using slogans such as, “Don’t retreat reload,” and at her opponent’s rallies the supporters could shoot m16s to show their support. I know that politics shouldn’t be that deadly but maybe Giffords’s death can be a watershed moment in the political game. I hope. Although I don’t see this happening for long, maybe the evil rhetoric will go down for a minute but let’s wait for the next election. Hopefully politicians will think about their rallies, instead of letting their supporters shoot m16s in the air, cause you never know what kind of people will be in your audience.
