Social Media Apologies, the Same as the Answering Machine Break-Up

I was on the Daily Beast and saw and article Hey Daniel Tosh- No One Believes Your Lame Twitter Apology  and the truth is I don’t believe that anyone actually does believe his twitter apology.  My question is, that I don’t really feel the author of this article gets to, when did we all have to start apologizing for everything?  And why do all these apologies have to become public, and when did they all have to become heartfelt.  Daniel Tosh made a bad joke, that was definitely in poor taste, but why does he have to make a public apology?  What happened to comedians making jokes at people’s expense, or being shocking?  What happened to celebrities saying something stupid, and we either love them or hate them for it.  But apologizing all the time, seem to me, as though apologies by celebrities will then mean nothing.
