Ever since the 2000 election political news people, bloggers and things of that nature have been keeping their eyes out on the independents, and my question is, does that hold true for this election? In an election where everything seems to be upside down and the Republicans went through front-running candidates like teenagers go through a pack of gum, I really wonder if we should not be looking at the Republican party itself. I don’t know if Republicans are going to vote for Mitt, just because he isn’t Obama. I seriously do not believe this. I see either a third candidate, or a low voter turn out. Maybe I am wrong, maybe people are just that pissed off, but when you spend the primary cycle looking for an, “anyone but Mitt” candidate, not it seems like the Republicans are voting for, “at least he’s not Obama.” Doesn’t seem to be a great way to run the country.
I have already posted in Santorum Endorses Romney the letter that Ric Santorum sent to his supporters stating his reasons for supporting the presumptive nominee. Here’s the truth, the Republican party is looking to delete Obama in November, the party doesn’t need this candidate hanging out there that some may believe would run in a third-party, or have a large group of supporters not voting. That’s the one thing Republicans’s fear, the Christian conservatives choosing not to vote. Do I believe that Santorum honestly supports Romney, not on your life. Do I believe that the Republicans are trying to get votes, yes. Do I think this will solidify the party and make the Republicans a strong unit able to easily defeat Obama? Not on your life. This primary season has been unbelievable nasty and has given a lot of political ammunition for the Democrats to use. While each side starts to move more towards the center to reach the average voter Romney has the problem that he’s never had the faith of the Republican right. And Obama is going to make sure to show the tapes and speeches of Santorum and Romney against each other. I don’t see any way for the Republicans to gain strength and move forward to victory. I am looking forward to an entertaining election season though.
Why is the Rosen comment still relevent? Considering that this woman has been forced to apologize, forced to backtrack, and been treated like dirt by both parties. Is there this “War on Women” that Democrats have been touting? What’s going on here? I honestly believe that both candidate have nothing better to show for the economy, which is what people really need. It isn’t good rhetoric and doesn’t make a good show when a candidate says, “yup we need more jobs.” Then you take into consideration the issue of foreigners, and other things like that candidates don’t want to touch that. The other issues there are to look at are social. For some reason politicians seem to be tired of gay people, so they have decided to dust off an oldie, but a goodie, abortion and birth control. It seems to me that both sides of the political spectrum are trying to get votes, well that’s obvious, and they are playing now to their core bases. Either extreme liberals, or extreme conservatives and that is how you win a primary, but that isn’t how you win a general election. I wonder if this will die down and the real issues of the nation will be heard after the primaries are locked up officially.
Wow bronchitis is really horrible. I am sorry readers, I have been seeing doctors who have been trying to help me get healthy and I am now officially on the mend. So to the task at hand, Newt Gingrich. Newt Gingrich is now more interesting to write about after the Herman Cain scandal and debacle. I find it funny how Cain was pushed out of the race due to his sexual past and Gingrich is now being embraced as the new lead candidate, even though his past is far from clean. I mean leaving your first wife of 20 years when she is dying of cancer is never a good thing. Gingrich was once the golden boy for the Republican party, in the early 1990s he helped write the “Contract with America,” and wrestle control of the House and Senate away from the Democrats in 1995. This man though is very abrasive and his style of politics led to his resigning as Speaker of the House and his descent into lobbying and writing historical fiction. He is great with the spoken word and a debate of Gingrich versus Obama would definitely be fun to watch.
Gingrich’s website asks you to “help with the 21st century’s contract with America” which harkens back to his glory days. All of Gingrich’s ideas are standard republican. This is what many people worry about, he would move with the changing wind. Nobody likes that. I’m sure you can tell I am not the biggest Gingrich supporter. Considering how brash he is, I feel as though we would have 4 years of nothing getting done, and he is supposed to be the closest thing we have to a Catholic running for the White House? It doesn’t seem right. Honestly I cannot see any way of Gingrich winning if anyone in America has a memory whatsoever.
Welcome back readers for the first blog of the holiday season. Today’s candidate we are looking at is Gary Johnson. Johnson is another one of these candidates that I see as Democrats in Republican clothing. Either these men don’t want to face a sitting president who is without question one of the greatest orators of the 20th century or their views have changed to become more Libertarian, whatever the case I do see this transition as something that can only be good for the Republican party, but I don’t see this as having a big effect in this election.
Johnson is a former two term governor of New Mexico with a lot of gains and successes for New Mexico. He cut a lot of costs and waste in the New Mexico budget. He is more willing to cut costs than raise taxes, a fiscal conservative, and this is something that the American people are looking for. A social Libertarian with fiscal conservative traits.
When you go to Gary Johnson’s homepage he is very clear about what he wants to do. Bring home the troops and strengthen America’s defense and present a balance budget and veto anything that doesn’t go with that budget. He wants to end the “assault on privacy,” by allowing the Patriot Act to expire and believes the government should be neutral on personal beliefs, meaning that abortion and gay marriage are OK by him. He believes the internet shouldn’t be regulated and that offline and online crimes should be treated identically.
His website is very interesting and engaging and very easy to read. There is no confusion on his point of view and I do find this candidate one to take a look at. He is one of the candidates that are underplayed, maybe due to funding, and I hope that people take a second look at him before voting.
Tom Miller is an unusual candidate. Miller is a flight attendant and a single dad who was not groomed for the presidency. Tom Miller sees that we are a nation of common people and he believes that America should have a common man with common middle class idea in the White House. Miller is registered as a Republican candidate, but on his website takes stab after stab at his party, in general. I don’t know if he is registered as a Republican because there is a sitting president who is a Democrat or if he really is a Republican. His budget proposal is very interesting, I am very surprised that as a Republican candidate that he would state clearly on his website that he would cut defence spending from $56 billion a year to $3 billion a year. Although I didn’t read the detailed budget proposal. His energy policy, if implemented would create so many environmental problems, drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and the North Pole, more oil refineries. I wonder if he wants his child to grow up in a beautiful country or a smoke and smog filled one. Miller believes in forcing politicians and state law makers to follow current illegal immigration laws and make the nation’s official language English. Miller’s platform, while well though out is naïve. He also says that the majority of presidents have been teachers and farmers, we’ve had university presidents and tailors, and yes any president before 1850 was a plantation owner, but none of these men came from nowhere, they had money and connections. So while yes he is right to say that anyone can be president, he still has to get his name out there somehow.
Can you believe that almost four years ago the nation elected the first African-American president. Now the question on many people’s minds is quite simple, will he get elected again. In November 2012 the US will have another presidential election and the candidates are already gearing up on the Republican side. It’s already been stated that President Obama will run for a second term on the Democrats side, so no need for a primary in that camp. The Republican candidates are working their tails off for the February primaries where the die-hard Republicans will choose their candidate for President. Now, why do I say die-hard is because during a primary that is all who votes. The average voter is too lazy to vote in a primary election, but then complains about how the candidate doesn’t cater to the average voter. That’s because the average voter only votes in November elections. In the next few weeks I will be doing profiles of the information I can find on the internet, of the top contenders for president. Currently I am doing research on Michele Bachmann, the controversial Tea Party Republican candidate. I hope this will help all make informed decisions.
Alright, I know that I have been overseas for the last year, but even I couldn’t help to hear about what crazy stuff our Congressmen and President have been up to. It seems that in the last year the American government has gone to the brink of insanity and beyond at some points. I have siblings, and I shared a room with my older sister my entire life, and my mother always told me that we had to share and compromise. Compromise seems to be a word that the Republicans don’t know. Republicans were able to get 90% of what they wanted by agreeing to raise the debt ceiling and not touch Medicare or Medicaid…yet, and yet many of the Republican leaders, mostly backed by the Tea Party call this a Legislative failure. No this was a failure in doing your job and protecting the entrusts of the American people. The government is in a recession, and we don’t need the entire government’s credit rating going down the crap hole just because the far right wants something the Democrats have put their foot down on. Yes, the National Debt is too high, I agree. But we can’t make more money in America, bring in more National Revenue unless we are willing to raise taxes and lessen our foreign commitments. America isn’t a manufacturing country anymore, we don’t export anything, we import. We have to cut the bull and realize that until there are more jobs created here we have to raise taxes, maybe if we raise taxes it will make the rich want to hire more people, that way there taxes are lowered. The American people need jobs and to know that their government officials aren’t going to take their government to the brink of collapse every time both sides don’t agree on something. This doesn’t look good for anyone with the upcoming election.
The Congress has come to a compromise last night that will prevent a government shut down, and all I can say is “thank God.” With our country coming out of a recession we do not need to have 1.8 million people not getting paid while Congress argues over social issues. This is for another time and another place. I haven’t found yet what the 38 million dollars in budget cuts will be and where they will come from, so I am holding my breath on calling this a huge success for either political party, but compromising at all, even if it’s only until September is what’s best for the nation.
I am sorry but I couldn’t even finish watching the “preamble” to this. Look as all of you know who have read my blog for one minute I am a conservative Democrat, but here’s the thing, people like this are ridiculous. I know that this isn’t my usual style but I am mad. This new congress was elected not to help the American people but to say no to President Obama and just like the 1994 election when the Republicans took over Obama is going to win a sweeping victory for a second term because these republicans are going to get nothing done. They aren’t magic, and our constitution doesn’t work that way. Sorry I am frustrated at american politics at the moment. Thank goodness I am in Europe right now.
