So my father likes to watch Fox News, and yes I judge him for it. Now the people on the show kept discussing, if the president put some Republican measures into the new health care bill would it pass, and most of the experts said no, that no Republican senator would pass health care. One of the topics of discussion was Tort Reform, I had never heard of this term, so I looked it up. And the short version is that Tort Reform would decrease the amount and ability of a person to sue for damages in the area of malpractice. I actually think this is a good thing. Towns are loosing their doctors because they cannot afford their premiums and the costs of doctors are going up because they are over run with patients. Now I am not saying you shouldn’t sue if your doctor screws up, or causes death. But the excessive judgements are ridiculous. Why should someone get millions of dollars for something that may or may not have been preventable. A friend of mine who is a nurse says that people don’t want to put their names on pieces of papers saying they were in the room for any procedure from an operation or a birth because if they decide to sue anybody who was in the room could pay out. Now this isn’t right. The doctors and nurses need to be protected too just like the patients and this would be good for the country.
