I am out of the celebrity news loop

Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey are having a baby.  My mom sent me some trashy gossip rags while I am traveling, for fun.  I then looked all this information up on the Internet and realized this story is old,–eally old.  I guess that while in Europe, the obsessive celebrity culture from the United States doesn’t matter as much.  Don’t get me wrong, European teens still think that Johnny Depp, Justin Timberlake and Rihanna are awesome.  But these kids aren’t following them on Twitter, checking out on YouTube what they are doing or what mistakes they are making.

It seems to me that celebrities in Europe have a more proper place–in the movies–and if seen on the street, the only people who come talk to them are the crazy Americans who ask for autographs.  Americans feel as though they are entitled to information and access to everything.  Jack Ryan was dropped from the Democratic primaries in a little known Senate race in Illinois because his divorce records, that not even his ex-wife wanted made public, were made public.  This event led to a little known State Senator, Barack Obama to win the Senate seat.  That would never have happened here.  There is no “-gate” of anything here.  And if there is, I haven’t read about it yet.
