So Newt Gingrich got glitter thrown on him. This is funny. Whether you are a Republican or Democrat it is funny to imagine the scene. Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich is at a book signing with his current wife. A man walks up to him, with a box, (side note: don’t you think his security should have found that fishy? Just saying in this post 9/11 world don’t you think that a man walking up to a political figure with a box would be questioned?) and this man dumps the box over Gingrich and his wife’s head saying, “feel the rainbow Newt, stop the hate, stop the anti-gay politics it’s dividing our country and it’s not fixing our economy.” At this point the man, the Glitter Bomber, has not been charged with anything.
Now what do I think about this man? Do I think this sort of politics is a good thing? Do i think this is a circus? Do I think this takes away from this issue and makes it look silly. Yes, all of the above. when people have real issues they care about throwing glitter on a minor politician is not going to make the world take your issue seriously, especially when you already have trouble with your issue being taken seriously. I know that this is funny, I do, and I know that this man is getting a lot of media attention and getting people talking, but about what? He’s not starting an intelligent discourse that will change politics. He is making people laugh, and that will not get your point across come the election.
