Automatic Voter Registration

Residents are automatically registered to vote in Oregon when getting a driver’s license, renewing a license or getting a state ID card. A few days after applying for their identification residents receive a prepaid envelope by mail with a card that allows them to choose their party affiliation or opt-out of registering to vote.

When they change their address on a license the resident’s voters registration is updated. It’s so easy.

The results are in after one month of this new motor voter implementation, and the results seem to be great, with 16% of people returning a card, and half of those people opting out, meaning they are paying attention.

Oregon already complies with the Real ID act and allows for 100% mail-in voting, so automatic voter registration makes a lot of sense.

What do you think? Should each state have automatic voter registration for its residents?
