Why in the World Would Tulsi Gabbard Vote Present?

Tulsi Gabbard is either the dumbest politician or the most principled politician that we have had in a long time. Tulsi Gabbard is a Democratic member of the House of Representatives from the state of Hawaii. Tulsi Gabbard is also running for the Democratic nomination for president. Yesterday during the impeachment vote Gabbard voted “present” on both articles of impeachment.

Why in the world would she do this? She has issued a statement on her website. Click here to read the entire statement. But let’s look at her statement and what she says she is trying to achieve.

Throughout my life, whether through serving in the military or in Congress, I’ve always worked to do what is in the best interests of our country. Not what’s best for me politically or what’s best for my political party. I have always put our country first. One may not always agree with my decision, but everyone should know that I will always do what I believe to be right for the country that I love.

After doing my due diligence in reviewing the 658-page impeachment report, I came to the conclusion that I could not in good conscience vote either yes or no.

So this first quote is Gabbard stating to those reading that, I am a good person and I do my own research and then do what I think is right. She wants everyone to know that she isn’t going to blindly follow what the Democratic Party tells her to do.

I am standing in the center and have decided to vote Present. I could not in good conscience vote against impeachment because I believe President Trump is guilty of wrongdoing.

I also could not in good conscience vote for impeachment because removal of a sitting President must not be the culmination of a partisan process, fueled by tribal animosities that have so gravely divided our country. When I cast my vote in support of the impeachment inquiry nearly three months ago, I said that in order to maintain the integrity of this solemn undertaking, it must not be a partisan endeavor. Tragically, that’s what it has been.

Tulsi Gabbard

This statement is what is confusing many people. She believes that the president is guilty of wrongdoing, but because she doesn’t like how political the impeachment process is, she doesn’t want to vote for or against impeachment. Impeachment has always been used as a partisan weapon. Andrew Johnson was impeached because he wasn’t liked by the Republican Party. Clinton was impeached by Republicans who had been attacking him since the first day of his presidency. There has never been a non-partician impeachment.

I don’t know what kind of president she would be if she cannot play hardball with the politicians. She wants us to think that she will be above party and above partisan politics when she should know better than anyone that you can’t be above it all if you want to create results.

What Gabbard’s actions and deeds have shown is that Tulsi Gabbard would be an inefficient president who finds her principles to be more important than doing what needs to be done for the American people.
