What’s the Goal of US Missile Strikes in Iran?
When the Trump administration announced that it had killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani last Friday social media erupted with fears of the draft and World War Three. These fears may seem a bit exaggerated, but as my peers age out of conscription age, Generation Z has to worry about what this unhinged President will do against an unhinged country.
President Trump’s diplomatic style, especially as it pertains to the Middle East, is inconsistent. He pulled out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, which pleased his base, without putting anything in to replace it. The president seemed to believe that because the United States has big missiles that will control the middle east (a strategy that has not worked ever).
In what seems to be a retaliation for the killing of General Soleimani, the Pentagon has issued a statement saying that more than a dozen missiles have been launched at two Iraqi military bases that station American troops.
What does the president hope to achieve by his escalation? We already know what these Shia Para Military Groups want, the ones that were headed by General Soleimani. These groups want America out of Iraq. To be fair many Americans want US forces out of Iraq. We have no goal in the region, we have no plan, and our presence is creating more terrorists.
What will happen? I don’t know. I truly do not know what this president is going to do about Iran now. He needs a game plan and an ultimate goal. I am tired of sending young people overseas to fight in wars that have no end.
