The 70th Anniversary Of V-E Day

Today is the 70th Anniversary of V-E Day.  For those of you who don’t know, V-E Day is Victory in Europe Day, or the day Nazi Germany surrenedered.  V-E Day is a much bigger celebration in Europe than in America for two reasons: First, the United States was not bombed by Nazi Germany during WWII. Second, the United States joined WWII because it was attacked by Japan.  Europe was grateful for the war to be over, the bombing to stop and the ability to feel safe and breathe. The US still had nearly 5 months to go until V-J day and the relief of the war being truly over.  As Americans, we cannot forget the courage and the sacrifice of all the men & women in Europe and the United States who fought tooth-and-nail to preserve the freedoms that we continue to enjoy today.  Their sacrifice carved the society that we all live and breathe in.   Happy V-E Day, and if you have a relative who happened to have lived through that time, start a dialogue and see what you can learn from him or her.

A celebration of Victory in Japan Day gave us this iconic image.
