Rachel Dolezal, the former chapter president of the NAACP, made headlines last year when it was revealed that she was born to two white parents. Now she is back on the television circuit. TSP introduced her last year so we won’t dive into her backstory. But suffice it to say she is a well educated woman, with two caucasian parents, who says that she can choose her racial identity.
Dolezal, appeared on the Today Show today saying, “I am looking forward to getting back to racial and social justice work.” She also talked about what she has been doing, a future Ted Talk, a book she is working on, and her new baby son. She says she wants to get back to her normal life. Follow this link if you are interested in watching the full interview on the Today Show website.
Dolezal raised a lot of questions last year since her story broke at roughly the same time as Caitlyn Jenner’s transition story. The country seemed to be questioning whether racial and gender identity could be fluid. Can you choose your racial identity without the family history?
We will see if the American public is interested in her book, whenever it is published, and how her Ted Talk is received by the public.
