Trump IS the Presumptive Republican Nominee
“Never Trump” forces change their tune to “Reluctantly Trump,” though many still staunchly oppose his candidacy.
With Kasich and Cruz out of the race, Donald Trump has effectively secured the Republican presidential nomination.
According to CNN, the Republican party establishment is split about the prospect of Trump as the Commander in Chief. Some, including former president George W. Bush and former Republican nominee John McCain, have said they would skip the convention. There are some in the GOP calling for a third party candidate with Ben Sasse writing an open letter to the American people about this topic.
During an interview with CNN, Ryan said that he wants to see Trump unite “all wings of the Republican Party and the conservative movement” and then run a campaign that will allow Americans to “have something that they’re proud to support and proud to be a part of.” As of May 9th Ryan has said that he would step down from his role of chairing the party convention if Trump asked him to.
Trump has received support from Rick Perry, Bill Cole, and Dick Cheney. The Atlantic has compiled a list of party leaders and what they think of Trump.
These next couple of months till the convention will be interesting. Will we get more photos of Trump eating a taco bowl as a way for him to counter his previous racist statements? Will Trump mellow and become more centrist, in order to win a popular vote nationwide? Only time will tell.
