Elizabeth Warren Ends Her Presidential Campaign
As of March 5, 2020, Elizabeth Warren ended her presidential campaign. After an extremely poor Super Tuesday showing, Warren ended her campaign. She failed to even win her home state of Massachusetts. Warren ended her campaign with a phone call to her staff. Senator Warren has not endorsed any candidate at this time, although currently, #warrentobiden is trending on Twitter.
Elizabeth Warren was seen by many to be an obvious choice for president. I never questioned her qualifications but I did question whether or not the American people would choose her over Bernie Sanders. Super Tuesday felt like a mandate for a Biden vs Sanders race. Biden is a more moderate Democrat and Bernie is a more liberal Democrat. Warren did not check any boxes that were different.
This could be why during Super Tuesday many southern states flocked to Biden. This is one of the reasons why Elizabeth Warren ended her presidential campaign. While many major Democrats are running away from Bernie Sanders (Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, and Mike Bloomberg have all endorsed Joe Biden while ending their presidential campaigns) he is still neck and neck with Biden.
Warren leaving the primary now will allow for voters to figure out which candidate they want to vote for. Technically Tulsi Gabbard, Joe Biden, and Bernie Sanders are still running for president, but we really only have two candidates that matter. Truly have two very different major candidates that will shift the entire ideology of the Democratic party either further left or much more centre.
