Leadership Qualities

“Show me the man you honor, and I will know what kind of man you are, for it shows me what your ideal of manhood is and what kind of man you long to be”

Thomas Carlyle

What are our expectations as to leadership? An individual’s expectations may be formed at a very young age. When one is 8, 9, or 10 years old, a child realizes that there is more to the world than just their backyard, little friends in the neighborhood, and elementary school classroom. When I was 8,9, and 10 years old, the President of the United States was John F. Kennedy. Kennedy had his faults both politically and personally, but as the public representative of our country, he was outstanding. Kennedy was charming and witty. He was not just intelligent but intellectual. He was not just articulate but eloquent. The qualities that made John F. Kennedy an inspirational leader are the qualities that I expect from a leader… and I pity children who were 8, 9, and 10 years old during the Trump presidency. Remember that the children are watching and listening as we engage in today’s political battles.
