The ‘Face of the Party’ vs “All Politics is Local”

Political analysts, Republicans, and some Democrats are absolutely apoplectic over the success of some Democratic Socialists. Those Republicans, moderate Democrats, and pundits claim that newly elected New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a self proclaimed Democratic Socialist will become the face of the Democratic Party. There are a couple of different ways to respond to the Republican’s glee and the moderate Democrat’s chagrin.

One way is to cite the old saying that “All politics is local”. The style and substance of a Mamdani type campaign might not go over well in other American cities the way it did in New York City. The Democratic Party is a ‘big tent’ party that values diverse opinions and from that diversity forms consensus policy proposals. Compromise is a key value for Democrats.

There is another way to deal with the ‘face of the party’ issue. If it’s fair to assign an individual politician as the ‘face’ of the Democratic Party, it’s also fair to assign a politician as the ‘face’ of the Republican Party. Unlike the consensus building diverse Democrats, authoritarian Republicans walk in lockstep.

The ‘face’ of today’s Republican Party is Trump endorsed Texas U.S. Senate candidate Ken Paxton.

Democrats need to tie Republicans to the authoritarian issues that dog Paxton and Trump.

  • Paxton and Trump protect pedophiles.
  • Paxton and Trump are ethically corrupt.
  • Paxton and Trump are moral slobs.

Democrats need to stop responding to Republican bait and the planted axioms put forward by the media. Use a little political jiu jitsu instead.

And yes, All politics “is” local is correct:
